All porcelain crowns

You may have noticed a dark blue or black line at the edge of older crowns. This is because metal has been used beneath the porcelain to provide the required strength. New technology had now developed porcelains that can be chemically bonded to teeth and no longer require a metal substructure – the unsightly blue line is eliminated and the edge of the crown can be placed slightly above the gum line making it much easier to achieve healthy, good looking gums.

All porcelain crowns have a translucency like natural teeth, making them hard to distinquish from the real thing.
